Tuileries Plaza Celebrates Kids!

May 2008 -

This event also marks the official opening of the “Children’s Garden” in the center of the property where little ones can cool off in the misting river, climb the Eiffel Tower, walk the maze and enjoy the original mural created by Kansas City’s own tile artist Carolyn Payne. Children were encouraged to visit all of the event booths with a Passport to Fitness to get stamped by each; if they had their Passport filled then received a free Hagen Daz fruit smoothie.

Kansas City’s civil servants really made this event possible. The Kansas City Police Department had a free Kids ID Program, complete with fingerprints and photos. They also offered bicycle safety information and helmets to evaluations to check for a secure fit. LifeFlight Eagle made quite a stir when they landed their emergency helicopter right in the middle of the event! A KCFD fire “pumper truck”, “ladder truck” and more than 10 Fire Fighters handed out stickers and fire helmets. MAST combined fun and first-aid at their teddy bear ambulance clinic. Both new and experienced drivers got a realistic feel of a car crash in Missouri Highway Patrol’s Seatbelt Convincer. Of course with it being summer we had to have information on swimming, so we invited the neighborhood YMCA to provide information on water safety and swimming lesson programs. North Kansas City Hospital offered some special information for adults and kids that included nutrition information, smoking cessation information and blood pressure checks.

This day wasn’t all serious, you have to let a kid be a kid and there is no better way than with face painters, balloon artists and a bouncing-good times in the inflatables!
