Kansas City is German for a Weekend! September 2008 - Oktoberfest Kansas City was a huge success with a beautiful weingarten, beer halls, the Warsteiner Emporium, three stages, pig racing, wood carving, pumpkin decorating, kids attractions, carnival rides, fireworks and live bands.
The festival officially began in true Bavarian tradition with a parade of German flags and two keg tappings. Brian McCarty Band led the parade and carried the official Oktoberfest Warsteiner keg to the Missouri Lottery stage. The American and German national anthems were sung and crowds gathered to hear “Zas tapft.” The keg was tapped and the fun began.
Friday had a wonderful turn out; the beers, brats and schnitzel were flying out of vendor booths as soon as they were prepared. The band Prost came back to Oktoberfest by popular demand and kept the crowd on their feet. Grammy-Awarding winning Brave Combo, a festival favorite with a huge following in Kansas City, kept the party going until midnight.
The weekend was full of giveaways and contests. The “G Games” pulled audience members from the crowd who were willing to try their luck and skill at everything from stein holding to pretzel throwing to musical chairs.
This year’s Oktoberfest added new features and attractions like the Heritage Hall, but as always kept the Bavarian tradition alive in Kansas City with food, entertainment and fun for the whole family! Photo Gallery
