A night of Art, Talent, Music and Romance!

October 2008 -

Arising like a Phoenix from the flames, WaterFire was resurrected stronger and better than before. WaterFire Kansas City has become one of the most spectacular, unique and entertaining events in Kansas City.
Mother Nature proved to be a challenge for this project. Due to drive, ambition, amazing support from JE Dunn Construction creating a new anchoring system and a will to succeed, the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association and Evenergy along with a talented planning committee saw the event through the devastation to another overwhelming success. Karen Holland, Event Chairperson said, “The enormous effort that Evenergy coordinated to create a successful and much anticipated WaterFire Kansas City, a powerful civic ritual that drew tens of thousands of citizens to Brush Creek for a multi-disciplinary art experience, was due in large part to their ability to overcome obstacles--accomplished through determination, a professional approach and shared enthusiasm."
The community buzz about WaterFire brought thousands to the Country Club Plaza and all along the banks of Brush Creek. The sun fell below the western horizon on October 25th, boats glided into motion, music resonated through the banks and honored guests approached the water with their torches. A hush went over the crowd as the flames were passed from torches to boats and then to each of the 55 braziers. The audience awaited the lighting of the first brazier on the evening of October 25th like a desert rain. A gasp and crackling applause waved over the crowd as the first fire was lit. Each boat passed bringing the braziers aflame, while fire dancers on the banks began moving in time to mystical music. A flame engulfed each floating pedestal and a warmth eased its way to the crowd through the crisp fall air.
The scent of burning cedar and pine floated into the air almost as they are lifted by the sweet serenade of some of Kansas City’s most recognized and talented vocalists. The flames have a magical sort of energy that brought the entire event to life. This energy was embodied in a wide array of performers from aerial artists to tango dancers who brought surprises to audiences at every turn. In addition, to a unique sensory experience Houston’s, Brio, The Capital Grille, and Plaza III provided wonderful food and drink options.
After this year’s success Evenergy is already looking to the future of WaterFire and beginning to work on surprises for 2009.
