Let's have lunch at Sprint Center!

Downtown Council Annual Luncheon 2008

The 2008 Downtown Council Annual Luncheon at Sprint Center was the hot ticket in town. Dignitaries, City Council members, business owners and artists all converged at Sprint Center to hear and see what the Downtown Council Kansas City had to say about 2008 and what is in store for 2009.
The David Basse Trio provided a jazzy welcome to over a thousand guests as they filtered into the Sprint Center. Almost 40 exhibitors displayed their products, services, events and organizations overlooking the Kansas City Power and Light District. Shortly after arriving, guests walked down from the concourse to the main floor for a sit down luncheon and an afternoon of awards, honors and accolades.
Local “Urban Heroes” Christina Boveri, Charlie German, Frank Hicks, Gibson Kerr, David Morris, John Scott, Bob Shapiro, and Jane Zieha were given this special award for their outstanding efforts for once again making Kansas City’s downtown a prosperous regional destination.
Jeff Chu, senior editor of Fast Company Magazine, was invited to be this year’s key note speaker to elaborate on why Kansas City was chosen "One of the 12 Cities to Watch Worldwide" in June's 2008 edition. The article had Kansas City standing shoulder to shoulder with “Fast Cities” across the globe the likes of Beijing, Moscow, Abu Dhabi, Mexico City, and Barcelona. Chu recognized not only the strides Kansas City made in its physical developments, but its exceptional diversity, as well as the city’s ability to capitalize and modernize existing industries in the “bovine silicon valley”. This article was quite a shot in the arm and a great endorsement for the Downtown Council. The article also highlights the tireless work the Downtown Council's has put forth to bring life back into a great town.
